Studying Shakespearean Sonnets

DSC_0005Campers participating in the Writer’s Studio course within the Center for Growth and Innovation program (CGI) are getting a tune-up in Shakespearean Sonnets today. With the help of their instructor, campers are learning how to pick apart and extract the meaning of some of the most famous poems from the decorated writer, William Shakespeare.

Today’s poem was titled, The Mistress’ Eyes are Nothing like the Sun’. The piece followed Shakespeare’s ideal sonnet structure, with 14 lines and 10 syllables per line written in iambic pentameter. Campers had fun dissecting the meaning of each line and understanding the underlying meaning of the piece. Later today, they will be writing their very own sonnets!
