Super Cool Science

brain1  brain3

We started off the week in Super Cool Science with some brains!! Dr. Wade Berrettini, from the University of Penn’s Perelman School of Medicine, stopped in with his brain exhibit. He taught the campers about the anatomy of the brain and even had real specimens to show! Campers observed a normal adult human brain and compared it that of a brain stricken with Alzheimer’s Disease. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience…unless one of our campers takes up Dr. Berrettini’s challenge and decides to study the brain as a scientist!

Dr. Berrettini earned his MD and PhD (Pharmacology) from Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA and studied the genetics of behavioral disorders at the National Institute of Mental Health, Bethesda, MD. For the past decade at The Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, his work has focused on the genetic and biological influences on the brain and behavior.
