Introduction to 3D Printing

3D1A number of campers involved in The Center for Growth and Innovation (CGI) are participating in an Introduction to 3D Printing course this week at ESF Episcopal. Using the popular Apple design program called SketchUp, campers are manipulating lines and shapes in a computer design studio to create three-dimensional objects to be brought to life.

In their first day of the course, CGI Counselor, Miss Eve, challenged campers to design and create a name-tag for themselves. Each camper could choose to make a rectangular tag to glue onto a small canvas mount, a key chain name-tag with a hole to thread it onto a ring, or a tag with an open center to be pinned onto their shirts. Campers spent all afternoon designing their name-tags and are planning on printing them with the MakerBot Desktop Printer tomorrow!
